Adelaide gets ready to host major medical conference: ASID ASM 2023
The South Australian Health Minister Chris Picton MP will formally welcome hundreds of infectious diseases physicians and clinical microbiologists from around Australasia - many of whom were on the front line during the COVID-19 pandemic - when The Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID) holds their Annual Scientific Meeting in Adelaide on 3-5 April 2023.
ASID President Professor Katie Flanagan said while last year’s ASM was a hybrid event it was wonderful to finally hold the entire meeting in-person again, at the beautiful Adelaide Oval.
“Our members are very excited about this year’s ASM is an in-person only event. The Local Organising Committee have planned a full program - themed The New World of ID - with a range of renowned local and international scientists as our guest speakers. This conference offers plenty of opportunity to network and engage in interesting and inspiring discussions; and members can enjoy an array of relevant excursions around Adelaide that have been organised for the ASID Special Interest Groups,” said Professor Flanagan.
A highlight of the event is a public appearance from social media sensation Dr Glaucomflecken.
Will Flanary, MD, is an ophthalmologist and comedian who moonlights as US based Dr Glaucomflecken and creates medical-themed comedy shorts for more than three million viewers. Initially used as an outlet to cope with personal health challenges, Dr. Flanary’s comedy has universal appeal and has evolved to incorporate biting satire of the US health care system, academic publishing and interpersonal conflicts pervasive universally in the medical system.

Minister Picton will welcome Dr Glaucomflecken to the stage at his public appearance.
