Research

Our members conduct a wide range of basic, clinical and translational research into the prevention, treatment and cure of infectious diseases. They address everything from the spread of infections to the effectiveness of new drugs.

Professor Joshua Davis (Hunter Medical Research Institute at the University of Newcastle) and Professor Steven Tong (Doherty Institute) are leading the SNAP trial, an Australian-led clinical trial involving infectious disease physicians, microbiologists, researchers and hospitals around the globe to identify the most effective treatment for patients with Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections.

In addition to impacting the lives of many people and their families, preventing, controlling and treating infection can save the health system significant amounts of money each year.

Researchers are continually finding better ways of controlling new and re-emerging infectious diseases, reducing the burden on hospitals and communities, and improving health outcomes.

ASID’s Clinical Research Network (CRN) helps strengthen research links and collaborations and helps drive infectious diseases research across Australasia by encouraging trans-global collaborative projects.
