Discussion about Australia’s new Centre for Disease Control to feature in ASID Annual Scientific Meeting in Canberra in April 2025
Canberra is gearing up to host the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID) Annual Scientific Meeting this year, with public health a focus for the three-day event.
The peak Australasian meeting for adult and paediatric infectious disease and clinical microbiology specialists, the 2025 theme ‘the changing face of infectious disease’ will explore what infectious disease will look like into the future.
The program features presentations and discussion on topics including new technology in the diagnosis and management of infectious disease, public health and the newly formed Australian CDC, and regional infectious disease in Australia and the Pacific.
ASID President Professor Joe Doyle said this year’s Annual Scientific Meeting would be of interest to many health professionals.
“ASID members are always excited about their Annual Scientific Meeting. However, this year’s event has sparked additional interest because – post COVID-19 – the broader healthcare community is keen to learn more about what is in place to safeguard Australians from human diseases and public health threats,” said Professor Doyle.
Canberra based co-convenors Dr Heather Wilson and Dr Ian Marr echoed this.
“The Local Organising Committee have planned a number of education sessions many health professionals would be interested in. The What’s New In components of the program has sessions on everything from Hepatitis B to RSV and the latest on antimicrobial resistance (AMR),” they said.
“We’re also delighted to host a symposium the day before the official conference starts. The Therapeutic Guidelines: Exploring the latest changes session will provide a comprehensive update of Antibiotic guidelines.”
The conference also features sessions with a regional Pacific and South East Asia focus.
