Viral Hepatitis Special Interest Group supports national response to eliminate hepatitis B and hepatitis C by 2030 28 July 2022
On World Hepatitis Day 2022, the Viral Hepatitis Special Interest Group (VHSIG) of the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID) has once again declared its support for the VH2022 Action Plan to eliminate hepatitis B and hepatitis C by 2030. The plan outlines seven important actions the Australian Government needs to take to pursue elimination by 2030. Associate Professor Jane Davies (VSHIG Chair) and Dr Sushena Krishnaswamy (VHSIG Deputy Chair) said ASID is proud to be one of several bodies supporting the 2030 Accord.
‘We commend Hepatitis Australia for their work in helping governments and communities to work towards meeting the hepatitis elimination goals, and recognise that while some progress has been made, collectively we need to ensure the VH2022 Action Plan is implemented in full.’ The Plan sets out prevention and treatment targets with a focus on raising awareness and momentum in the Australian community. The global and Australian theme for World Hepatitis Day 2022 is “Hepatitis Can’t Wait”.
